Monday, September 30, 2024 /St. Louis, Missouri – YWCA Metro St. Louis is excited to announce an inspiring installment of its Racial Justice Speaker Series on Thursday, October 10, from 5-8pm at the historic Phyllis Wheatley Heritage Center. This special event, in partnership with MYnd Over Matter, Inc., will feature best-selling author and speaker Minda Harts, with the discussion moderated by Chalana M. Scales-Ferguson, Esq., founder of MYnd Over Matter, Inc.
Minda Harts, a celebrated voice in the fight for equity and self-advocacy for women of color, will discuss the pressing issue of workplace inequality through the lens of her bestselling book, “The Memo”. The book, which is being adapted into a film starring award-winning actress Kyla Pratt, confronts the systemic barriers that women of color face in their professional journeys. With only 1 in 16 women of color occupying C-suite roles—compared to 1 in 4 women overall—Minda’s talk will offer essential strategies for breaking through these barriers and securing a seat at the table.
“The event will offer space for a critical conversation around the workplace experiences of women of color, particularly Black women,” said moderator Chalana M. Scales-Ferguson. “We will center the concepts of establishing trust and self-advocacy in the workplace in a landscape where workplace bullying, discrimination, and trauma have been widespread, contributing to the exit of talented women from their organizations.”
She emphasized, “The goal is to bring awareness and voice to members of this population and their allies, and to provide tools that will allow us all to contribute to healthier workplace relationships.”
Minda Harts is widely recognized as one of the most influential voices on equity in the workplace, earning accolades such as LinkedIn’s #1 Top Voice for Equity in the Workplace and a spot on Business Insider’s list of the top 100 people transforming business. She has shared her expertise on major platforms, including Nike, Google, and Disney, and serves as an assistant professor at NYU. Minda is currently working on a new book with Flatiron Books, focusing on the crucial topic of restoring trust in the workplace.
