Ways to Get Involved

How Do I Join the Fun?

Join a Parent Committee

As a parent of a child attending our Early Education Program, you are automatically a member of the Parent Committee at your center. Those that hold an office on the Parent Committee, also hold a place on the Policy Council. The Parent Committee will provide you with many opportunities to be involved in your child’s education, to assist in the operation of your center, and to grow through leadership and teamwork.

Through the Parent Committee, parents can participate in all aspects of Head Start, such as:

  • Make decisions about the design and operation of Head Start locally
  • Work on committees and provide leadership
  • Coordinate parent social activities
  • Assist with field trips
  • Develop at home activities
  • Help plan menus

To join, contact your Center Manager or Family Advocate.

Attend a Training

As a parent, it’s important for you to keep growing, too! Every year, we invite speakers to our Parent Committee meetings to provide information on a number of topics including child development, health, nutrition, and literacy.

Other training topics include:

  • GED Preparation
  • Domestic Abuse Awareness
  • Substance Abuse Awareness
  • Child Abuse Awareness
  • Healthy Marriages
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Job Readiness

Bring Dad Along

We encourage fathers and significant males to be involved in the early stages of their child’s development. We host activities that are open to biological fathers, extended family members such as grandfathers, uncles, cousins, and other positive male figures in your child’s life.

If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please call 314.427.4940 and speak to our Male Involvement Specialist.
