YWCA Is a Safe Place for All

YWCA Is a Safe Place for All

Dear YWCA Family and Friends,

The nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris broke barriers and laid a new path that inspired and energized millions across the country and throughout the world. That is a fact. And, this historic achievement means that a generation of girls have a new model of what is possible when women – particularly women of color are not only seen, but empowered to lead.

As the first Black and South Asian American woman nominated by a major party to run for the nation’s highest office, Vice President Kamala Harris embodies the mission and vision of the YWCA.

Each day, YWCA does the hard work to live our mission – as direct service providers, trusted community conveners, leaders, and advocates – and today is no different.  YWCA Metro St. Louis has never shied away from the hard work and determination required to build a racially equitable nation in which women and girls can thrive.

We will continue to serve our community and meet that mission through crisis intervention and housing for victims of sexual and domestic violence, through Head Start early education and childcare, and career and workforce programs designed to change the trajectory of a family’s life.

Thank you for supporting the crucial work we do to empower women and families in our community. If you are wondering what to do next, please remember that we are and will continue to be a safe place for ALL survivors. Share that information, and share our 24/7 Crisis Help Line: 314.531.7273. Please also consider making a gift to YWCA Metro St. Louis.

A reduction in funding is a real concern and an increase in the need for our services is a certainty.

With Thanks,

Dr. Cheryl Watkins, MBA
President and Chief Executive Officer, YWCA Metro St. Louis

Last weekend, YWCA partnered with Ulta Beauty, I Define Me Movement, and seven other YWCA associations around the country to expose 100 teen girls to STEM, career opportunities, and the importance of self-care. We will continue to empower and uplift women and girls, and each other.

YWCA Metro St. Louis is the region’s leading advocate for the safety, security and stability of women and children, serving more than 10,000 women and families annually. The mission of YWCA is eliminating racism and empowering women. YWCA offers crisis services and rapid re-housing for victims of sexual and domestic violence; services for pregnant women, Head Start and Early Head Start early childhood education; career readiness and economic empowerment services for all clients; and racial justice educational programs.
